Photo of the Week!

Apr.22, 2006, under Photographic

During some interient wandering yesterday I ended up in South Boston after a visit to the Federal Courthouse (well, I visited the lost & found). In wandering around I get to this point on the docks where there are some container ships loading up, which is pretty interesting to watch. The best part of the cheesy new “War of the Worlds” is that Tom Cruise’s charater is some hot-shot container ship crane loader – that should be a movie first.

This ship is the Yaun He, which is owned by COSCO – a shipping line owned by the Chinese government.

Actually that’s not really the photo of the week. That same point gives you a really unique vantage point to watch planes land at Logan. The little turboprops zip by pretty closely but it’s the really monsters, 737s and the like that block out the sun at this point. There were a couple aerophiles there as well. One dude suggested I wait for the 6:18pm Iceland Air to come in which apparently has a sick new paint job. I didn’t want to wait around for another half hour but I looked it up, I think it is this(from JetPhotos.com).

The best photo of the day is probably of this baby, an Airbus 319-112 owned by PSA which carries for US Airways (view it at Original to get a better sense of the scale)-

N742PS

Another photo of this plane that I have has the plane’s number, N742PS which is easy to look up. According to this post on Airliners.net, that line on the cone is actually a smile! That’s awesome.

Photo O’ The Week

I did some serious kittysitting last weekend, which was fun. The four cats were good ones & a very diverse lot. What do they look like? Good question, but no easy answer…

They weren’t too keen on sitting together, so I had to combine a photo of each into a photo montage that basically is just the pin light filter & a bit of extract in ole Photoshop, but you really get a sense what it would look like if you squeezed them all together! (without the mess!)

Diggity Diggity!

No sure about the spelling there but a miraculous thing took place, the other 2 photos I submitted to the Weekly Dig were printed in the last 2 weeks. Hot diggity!

Diggity Diggity!

The top left photo is a giant Turkish spider, I don’t think I actually took that photo, I think it was one of my Turkish arcadasj friends, but it is a pretty scary bugger. When his big brother entered our room (before he was killed by a crazy Canadian) you could hear the tap tap of his spider feet!

The second is a crocodile that I rescued from Brother Jimmy’s, a dirty bar in Cambridge. I released him back into the JP wildlife.

Here are some interesting shots for my third installment. I like the colors & perspective of these early morning shots of my fair city.
