I put together a small set of my favorite photos from 2005, or the last 6 months of 2005. That’s when I got my baby, the e300!
Here is the set: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nate_marsh/sets/72157600048557212/
Love you baby!
Infrastructure

I read a fantastic book earlier this year about something I had no idea I would enjoy so much – a complete page turner that I really could not be separated from for long. This book was called: A Field Guide to the Industrial Landscape. The central point of this book (in my mind) is that we everyday stumble through a complex landscape representing the pinnacle of human engineering, yet we rarely make an effort to understand even the basics of how it all fits together to make up the infrastructure that nearly all of us encounter.
This book doesn’t bash you over the head with superstructures and this complex web, instead it feeds you the different pieces and gives you the tools to better understand how the world seemingly hums along. The book is by no means exhaustive and the author goes to pains to point out that everything he discusses is immensely more complicated. The reason this book is so amazing is the authors ability to break complex systems into interesting pieces. The icing on the cake is that the author has included thousands of his beautiful photos of whatever he is talking about. Much of the greatest photos are of stuff that, post-9/11, would be nearly impossible to access, let along snap some shot. Seriously, this book is nearly perfect in what it provides – my old man even uses it in one of the classes he teaches!
In celebration – I made an infrastructure flickr set of some shots I enjoy, maybe you will too!
Gordion Panorama

Gordion Panorama, by nate_marsh.
I have finally got to playing with some of my photos from Turkey. This panorama is 14 stitched images. I had initially had some problems lining up the images and adjusting the levels, I ran this through Adobe Photoshop CS3’s new Photomerge and (5 minutes later) this big boy was produced.
I did some cropping and light color correction but I am pretty happy with the image so far, the images fit almost perfectly. Need to fix the sky a bit, but I like the spread. Click on “All Sizes” to see the original image. There’s noticeable compression but not terrible. I’ll try to pretty it up a bit later this week.
The Annual Santa Hunt

The Annual Santa Hunt, by nate_marsh.
My bro & I bagged a big Santa this year on the traditional 47th Annual Central PA Santa Claus Hunt.
I bet all those boys & girls thought they were helping out the jolly man by providing milk & cookies. Fact is, it just slowed him down for us. He weighed in at about 345lb – those poor reindeer could barely keep him in the sky!
I am holding Eli’s new rifle, a gun that, ironically, Santa brought this year! Loaded up some Kringle Stoppers ™ .22 rounds and built the classic chimney blind – fat bastard never had a chance.!
Good eating too!

I have been working on cleaning up some photos from Turkey lately, which I am excited about. Also creating a pimped-out digital photo frame which is almost done, should be very slick.
I spotted this little fellow today as I was out for a strolled. A little late in the year to find pygmy tree hippos, but it has been a relatively mild winter so far – go figure. You can tell by the mean little glint in his eyes – don’t even think about touching the berry!
Unbelievable Photo

This is one of my punniest photos – un-bee-leaf-able – haha. It’s probably a hornet anyways, but… ha

I saw this lil’ guy on my way into a consulting gig on Friday. I don’t see too many of these fellows in the city, so I was glad to be able to get close enough to see the disgusting hairs on his(her?) hideous bug body. Gross

Lovely Littles, by nate_marsh.
So, I decided to bite the $25 bullet and get on filckr. I love pbase, but flcker is hot hot hot right now, so I might as well get on that. I like the idea of tagging a bit, but I like the fact that it is huge even better, lots of faces to see my pretties!
Here is my first set, the Best of the Florals – some good new ones there!
Expect a lot more photos!
More Macros

Here’s a few more shots of exotic critters in even more exotic locales. I bought them little lizards and snakes and frogs at Boing. They were on $.10 a piece!
New Goodness
Apr.30, 2006, under Photographic
I recently went ahead and bought an extension tube for my camera – the begining of an adventure that will probably have me buying successively expensive lenses and crying for all the money I’ve spent on pieces of glass. Funnily enough, the extension tube I bought, the EX-25 , is just a tube, no glass, no magic, just an empty tube that passes the info & power from the camera. The beauty of this sweet baby is it allows me to get in much closer to the smaller things, like pretty pretty flowers or a rancid mouse corpse.
I had an earlier Macro obsession, visible here at my Pbase page, I feel now that I am putting together some better compositions, here are my recent favorites!
