bus & booze

Dec.12, 2004, under Uncategorized

A heard a funny little exchange on the 39 bus around midnight on Friday.

I was sitting on the bus towards the front with one massive guy in front of me and his buddy on the left. Both were carrying little gym bags, I assumed they were coming home from work or going to stay at the YMCA, which is on that route.
Right before we get to Northeastern University the bus picks up some rather drunk college kids. One is working the “very extroverted & awkwardly drunk” thing and attempts to shake the massive guy’s hand. The giant kind of just ignores him. The kid trys again, “let’s shake!” – his shaggy head unable to understand why someone would not want to shake his hand… no luck. This giant of a man is probably the last person I would try to make do anything he didn’t want to…

Drunk guy drifts off into boozeland and loudly tells his buddies, one wearing what looks to be a brandnew pbr hat, the white is almost unbearable to look at and putting decent pbr drinkers to shame, about how shitcanned he is.

So those jokers get off after a couple stops, likely going back to there dorm room to try to drink some more before some violent “making sick” is carried out.

The giant’s friend turns to him, almost giggling: “Those guys were really drunk”

G: “Yeah, I remember getting that drunk…”

GF: “Oh yeah”

G: “You know what I should have said to them? that I wasn’t trying to be mean, not shaking his hand, I was just jealous of him, that they can still get drunk.

I don’t ever really think to much about drink a couple brewdogs & chilling out on a Friday night, kinda made me realize what I take for granted. Deep, right?

new shit I like

Dec.09, 2004, under Cell Phone

Here’s a bunch of new things I like:

1.) My new phoney. The SonyEricsson T637 is not only the cheapest phone on amazon.com, with a cumlative $320 rebate on a $120 phone, it has ridiculous powers when powered with floAT. Bluetooth is pretty addictive, I can’t imagine another phone without it.

2.) My new mp3erator. I got the iRiver iHp799. It’s in the same relative price range as the iPod Mini and some other harddisk players, but it’s a gig of flash memory. I am not so impressed with the iPod or iRiver’s HD players, not impressed enough to drop >$350 to hold all my music, so I decided to get this super light, simple & nice sounding friend.

3.) The Kleptones – A Night at the Hip-hopera. This is a pretty fantastic mashup of a some Queen and a lot of popular and relatively unknown djs & mcs. It flows incredibly well, it’s a phenomenal example of what people can create when they ignore our fucked up copyright laws and start putting things together, you ain’t finding this in any record stores!

pies

Dec.01, 2004, under Uncategorized

We finished my works huge charity pie sale last week after two months of scrabbling. I wasn’t supper involved until the last four weeks when things really started to come together. Anyways, the last 3 days we get all the pies together under one roof to sort them, the Park Plaza Castle. This building is pretty amazing, if you live in boston you’ve probably walked past it many times without peeking in, it is enormous. Here’s a photo of a bunch of our volunteers checking pies, boxing them and sorting them for delivery, a huge task

Pie Central

I really like the size of the photo, the vertical scale. My friend turned me on to the photographer Andreas Gursky, really amazing stuff. The photos to me seem to capture simple scenes from an amazing perspective. Check out some of his photos
